5 tips to increase your confidence as a Business Analyst

At The Skilled Business Analyst we are passionate about mentoring and growing Business Analysts. The more confidence you gain as a Business Analyst, the more you are able to add value in your projects and become a Trusted Advisor in your organisation. In this article, The Skilled Business Analyst presents 5 tips to increase your confidence as a Business Analyst.

  • Knowledge is Power – Read! Get certified.

‘Knowledge has power. It controls access to opportunity and advancement’ (Peter Drucker)

This is my all time favourite tip! I firmly believe in reading as it opens up different ways of thinking. There are many books available on the market that can help BA’s expand their knowledge! For information on these books – watch this quick video from The Skilled BA:

  • Get involved in your local IIBA Chapter

‘IIBA members have exclusive access to the global community of BAs, Educators, Thought Leaders, Mentors and Coaches’ (IIBA)

In addition to this, being involved in an IIBA Chapter will also allow you build your network with other BA professionals.

  • Find yourself a mentor

‘Mentoring is a brain to pick, an ear to listen and a push in the right direction’ (John Crosby)

A good mentor will help you achieve your goals and will provide encouragement as you navigate different situations in your career. They will hold you accountable for your goals and help you reach your full potential.

  • Seek opportunities to lead projects

‘We should never shy away from the challenges that face us out of fear of failure…’ (Kyle Maynard)

You never know your full potential until you are put in situations where you need to lead!! You need to start somewhere and its always good to step up and take lead on projects. Setbacks will happen but these setbacks are only steps to success!

  • Build relationships with key stakeholders

‘Stakeholder engagement is a never ending process… it is a relationship’ (Wouter Vermeulen)

Empathise with your stakeholders and ensure you understand their domain very well. With time you will end up speaking the same language and they will even end up advocating for you!!
